Le Fresnoy is a French post-graduate art and audiovisual research centre based in Lille. Its emphasis is on breaking down the barriers between media and languages. The works produced at Le Fresnoy embrace all audiovisual languages, from electronic and traditional media (photography, cinema, video) to digital technology and other state of the art media developments. Le Fresnoy’s aim is to enable young artists to produce works using high quality professional equipment under the direction of established artists. Visiting teachers have included Tsaï Ming-Liang, Bruno Dumont, Chantal Akerman, Avi Mograbi, Mathieu Amalric, Sven Påhlsson, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Robert Cahen and many others.

Several now well-established artists have studied at Le Fresnoy, among them, Anri Sala who recently exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery.
