Paul O’Neill‘s video footage shot from the window of a car waltzing crazily around an enormous French parking lot to Strauss is familiar melody.

Paul O’Neill is an independent curator, artist, lecturer and writer, currently based in London. He is interested in addressing the systems of interpretation that are involved in making sense of the world around us, as much as he is concerned with the compulsions that lead to interpretation and meaning itself. His practice explores the experience of moving across things, of traversing territory rather than patrolling boundaries. Sometimes this exploration takes the form of curatorial projects, art- making, writing or lectures. He was Gallery Curator at londonprintstudio Gallery between 2001-2003, He is Co- Director of MultiplesX; and has presented exhibitions at spaces such as the ICA, London; Temple Bar Gallery and Project, Dublin; Ormeau Baths, Belfast; Glassbox, Paris and The Lowry, Manchester. He has curated over 40 exhibitions and projects, that include recently: Mingle-Mangled, Cork Caucus, Cork; General Idea: Selected Retrospective, Project Gallery, Dublin; La La Land, Project, Dublin; Coalesce: The Remix, Redux, London; Tonight, Studio Voltaire, London, 2004 Coalesce: With All Due Intent at Model and Niland Art Gallery, Sligo, 2004 and touring to K3 Gallery, Zurich in 2006 and Are We There Yet?, at Glassbox in Paris.

As an artist, he has exhibited internationally, including at Zacheta Gallery of Contemporary Art, Warsaw; Glassbox, Paris; Villa Arson, Nice; The South London Gallery, temporarycontemporary and Cell Project Space, London; and at Project and Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin. Currently he is a PhD scholar at Middlesex University, researching curatorial histories. He is currently working on two books on contemporary curatorial issues and has just written a series of articles in Art Monthly exploring aspects of recent curatorial practice. His edited anthology of new curatorial writing, CURATIN SUBJECTS will be published by De Appel and Open Editions in October. He writes regularly for many journals and magazines including Art Monthly, Contemporary, the Future, Everything, Space & Culture Journal and CIRCA.
